22 - survival mode

if you've read my last post, you'll have an idea that my living situation turned out crappy and therefore somewhat affected my mood and i just had to detach myself from the situation so that i dont put a damper on my stay here. i think this was the first time i was very homesick and i was crying at night thinking about my family (also heard the extreme whether and i worried about how they were coping). i missed my siblings terribly and also other news from back home made me uncomfortable so i decided to really focus on myself (which is really the main purpose of my trip here) and just make the best out of everything.

and so i looked for more friends - outside the industry (ie locals). i am a very friendly person and i can make friends easily anywhere i go. even instant best friends; which is why i was disheartened when my roomie situation didnt work out.  anyway, when humans tend to piss me off, there's always the "man's best friend". everybody, meet theelo :)

21 - the german roommate

so for about three weeks, i lived with this german chick who has been featured in a few of the photos that i previously posted. it all started well with us - she was the perfect wifey. she cooked for me, cleaned, did laundry and we slept in a conjoined bed. but after awhile my patience for her ran thin and i was reminded of how low my tolerance is for girls. this chick totally stretched my patience and i bit my tongue each time to prevent any major conflicts. she was just ALWAYS on my case. it was like we were in a relationship and she had to know my every move. there was jealousy involved as well, and the fact that i was booking bigger jobs than her, and i was getting more attention from boys just killed her spirit. there was also a language barrier which ran my patience dry. living with her became unbearably uncomfortable. so the bitch in me was unleashed so i had to be cunning in a way that i know she wont be able to figure out. the girl is blonde, what can i say so it was pretty easy.  i connived a plan with the flat manager to get her to move two doors down with her friend from germany (the other german blonde featured on previous posts). i told the flat manager that i can no longer stand the smoking and since they were friends, they can live together. i did this all behind my roommate's back and pretended i had nothing to do with it because she is only two doors down; i still had to deal with her. long story short, the bitch has been evicted and my hands were clean (in true 'big brother' fashion!).

she totally burned me out and her negative energy drained me. it came to the point that i hated everything about germany! but these german boys saved the country. this was my celebratory "no more german roommate" party :)

20 - the stuff in between

here are some random stuff i snapped with my bb torch (best phone EVURRR) while im out and about. it's so weird how little i took with my real camera; and to think i wanted to bring the SLR. i love my phone!

im the only one in SA with a white bb torch so everyone always takes a notice. this one's my fave comment:
random girl: oh your torch is white! it has a condom on it!

lol - no glove no love ;)

my mid-day mojito - it soothes my soul during a hot day
(i love how there's always ocean or mountain on the background)

"jam jar - bubble gum & strawberry flavour"
it sounds sweet, but it's full of alcohol as well
(i had to take a nap after this meal and drink)

my friend took me to this place where you can order ethnic food for really cheap!
ive been dying to find 'dirty food' for awhile and im glad i finally found it.
it's a long strip that opens from one street and ends on the next one.

here's another shot of the place
(i was trying hard to seem discreet thats why my shots are bad)
they serve a lot of middle eastern and asian food
i had butter chicken on this day.

i was standing at the corner of 'parliament' and 'parliament'

we thought of joining this protest but we didnt have time;
so i took a pic instead !

i just finished going to castings and i just happend to pass by the infamous golden arches.
i was craving those fries so badly! and i was curious to see if their nuggets tasted the same...
pretty close.

finally found a catholic church i can attend.
"sacred heart"
i was also trying to look for volunteer opportunities thats affiliated with the church
but i couldnt find anything. i'll try asking this weekend.

i snuck in a photo after mass.
it's a pretty cute and quaint church.

"little amsterdam" !
picture taking stops here...
(no further explanation required)

ONE LOVE.
heh i guess now i can say that i been on a date with a real rastafarian ;)

19 - the j&b met

one of the most prestigious events here in SA - the j&b met. i keep hearing about this from people and i had no clue what it was about but my roomie and i were given free tickets (R2500) to attend the celebrity tent so  it was great that i got to attend and see what all the commotion was about. it's really a horse race event but it's the place to see and be seen, and everyone is adorned in crazy outfits (the wilder the better) in the middle of the day. it's a social event for everyone who digs that sort of thing. it is then followed by all night partying, as always.

our ticket and special VIP invitation

the general public
i dont know if you can tell, but everyone's pretty dressed up
(i still dont get it)
'by invitation only' private tents - free drinks all day long

the celebrity tent had cameras everywhere and was supposed to be shown on tv
i signed a clause saying it's okay for me to be filmed etc, but i never followed up on it
- womp womp -

cheesing :)
lovin my hair though, hey?

geez someone forget her angles!
*model fail*
this dress was so unforgiving.

18 - hout bay

took a bus ride here for a tvc shoot and it's about half an hour ride away from where im staying (sea point). the route was so scenic and i felt like i was going on an excursion instead of a job. when i got "on set" i was just in awe of everything and i felt like a total celebrity. i have a lot of "out of body experience" while im here and this is definitely one of those moments when i said to myself, "giiiirrrlll.. you better be countin your blessings, b!"

i couldnt help but take shots while on route even though i know that no pics could ever do this place justice
then one of the girls said, "shai is being a tourist!" lol

a house in the middle of no where.

the only thing worth it about having an early call time - breakfast !
i love catered all you can eat breakfast.

lauren getting her make up did :)

"krevetki potaisku"

"a spa retreat"
this place is actually someone's house. it was magnificent.

behind the scenes with the director and crew
a lot goes on these, it's insane.

eva and i after a long day of "hard work"
honestly it was a full day of R&R because of the down time.
a normal person would call it boring, but i take it as "getting paid to do nothing much"

17 - the crazy life

so i am truly disappointed at myself for not updating this blog with the "good stuff".
something totally EPIC happend last night but since this blog is almost a month behind (and the OCD in me says i should story-tell in order because i like things organized), so i better get my butt to start updating quickly so that i can get to some juicy details.

but for now, i am still having the best time of my life, and thinking of going back home makes me ill :(
mind you, i miss my family terribly (and some friends that im not in touch with via bbm), but things are just so good here. it makes me kinda sad that i didnt do this sooner, so i couldve come back yearly (once every season). but i think this experience of living here is enough to get me to say, "i lived it up".

besides, i have great things in store for me when i get back!
...the rest of my life :)

*on a high*

bisous!
xx.
