35 - muizenberg

i met someone at one of the jobs i did. he's a cape town native that lives on the other side of the mountain, but the coolest thing about him was that he's a rastafarian. never had a friend like that before! except since he's now modeling, he had to get rid of his dreadslocks. anyway, he called me up one day for coffee after our castings and as we talked, he was shocked that i havent really been anywhere much. being on call all the time for castings makes it difficult for me to go out and about because anytime, my damn phone will beep. also, i told myself that i will not be a tourist. as you've noticed, all the photos ive taken are with my phone camera instead of my actual point and shoot. so long story short, we made a random day trip to his side of the mountains. it was so random it made me nervous, but i love the spontaniety. we went just as how we are (good thing i was wearing comfy footwear). we went for a long walk in the city, stopped by a few places that he thought was worth showing me. we also stopped at this food stand where they serve south african snacks and he bought me a "chip roll" which is a bun (like a hotdog bun) with fries, veggies and sauce.  it sounds weird but it's really good! for drinks he bought me ginger beer.

after we grabbed our grub, we went to the train station and he bought us two "first class" tickets to "kalk bay" (located in muizenberg area).  i have never been inside the train station nor the train for that matter so that alone was exciting enough for me. when we got on the train i looked around and said, "if this is first class, im afraid to know what economy class is..."  he laughed at me and said that i really wouldnt want to know because it's really ghetto. the seats are plastic and it's usually crowded with "black people". i guess this was more apparent during the apartheid period.

we ate our snacks on the train and then he'd point out some cool places to me as we zoomed by. in muizenberg there was this small town feel environment where there were clothing shops, vintage shops, bookstores and a gelato place. we bought gelato as we walked around and enjoyed the different views. i was having somuch fun that i didn't take as many pictures, which i always regret at the end of the day. i wish i can share it here, but the pics below will have to suffice.
