11 - apartment hunting and the "black taxi"

my week so far has been great and it's only wednesday. been getting a lot of pretty good feedback, and the party on the weekend was great!  i'll say more about it when i have the pictures. i think it works best that way.

i took two dance classes on monday and i loved it! first it was salsa, then a choreographed cha-cha. after that i took the zumba class again, and i ended it with a breathing and stretching exercise. totally loving the dance classes and i think im going to dedicate monday evenings strictly for dancing :)  i also took a new class at the gym called powerplate (popularized by madonna). OMG i died taking that class. although the vibrations of the machine gave quite some pleasant sensations...

yesterday was the day i felt most proud of myself - survival wise. i think ive mentioned here before about "black taxis"? yes it's actually called that. i think it's the canadian in me that doesnt make that phrase roll off my tongue quite nicely. anyway, everyone has always advised me not to take that. but i guess curiousity (and stubborn-ness) will kill this cat because yesterday i took the black taxi. a normal taxi would cost me about R30 to get home from the gym. the black taxi took me home for only R5. from the city, it would cost about R50 to get home, and just now i paid R5 again. that is less than $1!  really, it's not as bad as they say. maybe im just lucky. i have really good intuition and never did i doubt my safety in these taxis. im going to continue taking the black taxi on my way home because its way more economical for me. when i go to castings, my roommate and i usually drive, but when she's not available to drive, i have a "private driver" to take me places. i flirt with him relentlessly so that he will give charge me a low price, and it works.  i laugh now at the advise i got before i left about how dangerous it is here. im pretty much running the town like ive lived here for years. ive always been a good travel. kinda like, "when in rome, do what romans do". i dont get sick when i eat street food (which i do often), i dont stick out like a tourist because of the way i dress, and i take public transit. that's how ive travelled in all the countries i've been to. i also finally found "real chinese food", or at least as real as it's gonna get. the first time i had chinese food here, it was quite disappointing. i love how everywhere you go in the world, there's always the safety of getting chinese food to nourish you. im done eating at the fancy schmancy restaurants and cafes. i just go in to any "hole in the wall" restaus that i pass by and i eat (regardless whether it's "for one") because im hungry. i have no care in the world. fearless!

so just in case you're planning on coming here, i suggest looking for accommodation in sea point. it'll be the safest and "upmarket" (as they call it) place here in cape town. you can also try green point as an alternative.  here is what a very upscale vacation apartment looks like. my friends and i were apartment hunting and i took some snapshots.

the living room as you enter from the front door

a closer look of the living room, with a view of the dining table

the kitchen - fully furnished with everything you need
(except food of course!)

master bedroom
(its good how they cushion the headboard..)

 the second room
(this was a two BR apartment)

window view #1 - mountain and stadium

 window view #2: the sea

rental for something like this is R35,000/month.
i did mention it was upscale right?? :)
note: this is NOT where i currently live. i filmed a room tour but it's not letting me upload it on here. shame.

10 - the night life

i tried to upload my video just now and it didnt work :(
so more pictures will have to do for now...

St Yves club - still sober...

first drink. they have cabanas outside the club.
the view of the club is of the ocean (like everywhere you go around here!)
i wish i took more pix of the place bc it's such a swanky club.

a stolen pic from club photographer
with jack - the owner of the club!

smooching with the owner and got free drinks all night long!

getting down.
notice the absence of any asian people.
white girls cant dance... i show 'em how it's done.

i dont remember this being taken...

that's how we roll...

my vision after one too many drinks...

8 - zumba!

i had a rough couple of days, but it's getting a bit better now. life here in CT is way too slow for me. it's so chill, which is good in a way, im just not used to it. i think i felt my first "homesick-ness" the past couple of days. but i know that when i get back to the groove of things back home, im going to miss the relaxing atmosphere that CT has to offer.  so i have to actually  try and soak this all in before it's all gone.

i tried the zumba class at the gym the other day! omg it's crazy, but definitely fun. i highly recommend it if your local gym offers the class.  you wont even notice that you're sweating off the extra calories, plus you're learning some pretty good moves. we did some latin, bollywood and african moves. i loved it! it's definitely better to take classes rather than hop on the treadmill. i feel like hamster and i dont feel like it works. another reason why i took the class is because during my castings (ie auditions), i am often ask to do ridiculous things such as dance. the zumba class really helped me the next day when i had to do a choreograph thai dance for lays chips commercial!

ive also been taking a walk around my neighbourhood to just visit the nooks and crannies of the place and see what i can find. we've been eating at less expensive places now (we were weary at first because we didnt want to get sick; although my resistance for that stuff is pretty good). we also visited some local shops and retail therapy definitely cured my aching soul :)

im at the gym's internet cafe right now so i cant really upload pictures but i think i got the internet at home to work so hopefully i can post more pictures later this week. i still have to upload the videoclips i took also. right now im just waiting for the 'body conditioning' class to begin then we're gonna go home and get ready to paaaartyy.

that's right - partying on a thursday night. ONLY IN CT! :)

bisous!

6 - out and about

here are some more pictures that i took from my phone. i hope the pic quality is okay. i have yet to upload some photos on my actual camera. ive also been taking video clips so hopefully i can upload that too. we're having difficulties with the wifi at the apartment so i have to do this all at the internet cafe and it's so difficult to convert and stuff. i'll put more details below each pic. enjoy!

more to come soon.

a view as we drive to victoria wharf mall.

inside victoria wharf mall. i didnt get to see the entire mall because it was too big! it pains me that i cant really buy much. but most of the stores there are like the big box stores in north america anyway.

a view of table top mountain just outside the mall's balcony.

a shot from above. below are more shops and restaurants.

not the best shot (it was against the sun - and that piece of hair is totally bothering me!).
we had lunch on the patio overlooking the marina.

our view.

some over-priced pasta but i almost didnt notice because the ambience was too good.

people playing soccer as i walked to the gym.

walking by the waterfront. this family is waiting to watch the sun set.

caught a glimpse of the sunset as i walked home.
"...wish you were here..."
